**NEW DATE: MARCH 4TH, 2025**
On March 4th, in partnership with the City of St. John’s, School Sports NL will be hosting the first Metro Area Adventure Race in Pippy Park. This event is open to students in grade 7-9.
What is an Adventure Race?
An adventure race consists of teams of 5 students (co-ed) and one adult combining snowshoeing, fire building, orienteering and cross country skiing into a single event.
The race begins with a 2km snowshoe during which teams will be required to build a fire and burn a rope (all material will be provided). Following this, teams will complete a small orienteering course then transition to skis and complete a 3km loop of Pippy Park.
Registration:
10 teams (max 2 per school)
Right now we are looking for an expression of interest from Junior High schools who are members of SSNL. If this is something your school would be interested in, please email ntulk@schoolsportsnl.ca by February 28th, 2025. A google registration form will be circulated at a later date.
Registration fee:
There is no cost for this event
Equipment:
While students are encouraged to use their own equipment, skis and snowshoes will be available. Please note, adaptive equipment is available for those who need it.
When and where:
Tuesday, March 4th at North Bank Lodge in Pippy Park.
Teams:
Team members (including teacher or accompanying adult) must travel the course as one unit and be always within sight of each other. This rule is in place to encourage co-operation and teamwork amongst participants and to ensure a safe race for everyone.
If you have any questions or would like some more information please reach out. More specific race details will follow.
