Stay tuned for more details for 2020-2021.  We are in the process of engaging our schools for an Outdoor Version of PN Unplugged.

The program’s name “Un-Plugged” was created to serve as an emphasis to remind everyone about the concern that we have with the amount of screen time that our youth are being exposed to in the after school time period. This program is to help reduce the amount of screen time students spend watching TV, playing video games, browsing the internet and using smart phones in the after school time slot. Elementary and High Schools partner to offer the Participation Nation program using Grade 10 and Grade 11 students as Volunteers Program Leaders for grades 4-6. We also allow for grades 4-6 and  7-9 using Community Members and Teachers as facilitators.

Thank you to our funders, the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador – Department Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation.  Through their financial support, we are able to offer free High Five Principle of Healthy Child Development ($125 value), a  hoodie and T-Shirt to be worn when students volunteer( $85 value) . Once student leaders have filed their 30 hour hour volunteer commitment with us , we will provide an hourly honorarium for them to continue with the program until they graduate from their High School.

We train our PN Unplugged High School Students Volunteers with the High Five ‘s Principles of Healthy Child Development. If you want to know why we provide this training free of charge please check out the links below.

Other funds are distributed to purchase fruit and vegetables as a snack in the program , and small equipment.  The amount of the grant will depend on your geographical location and number of students in your program.  Resources are available from Eat Great & Participate to help students plan a healthy snack.
