WELCOME BACK FOR THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR
As we begin another school year, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all students, teachers and coaches back to school. I do hope you have had a restful and enjoyable summer and are anxious to get involved in school sports once again. SSNL programs try to provide something for most everyone and we do our best to help you make the most of your school sport experiences.
The "start up" packages for each school will be forwarded to your school in the next few days. These packages include calendars, handbooks, rule changes, and other important information. Please ensure you review all the information so that your school does not miss out on any opportunities or deadlines.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When are membership fees due?
They must be received at the SSNL office by October 31st.
How much are membership fees?
The fees vary depending on the size of the school, anywhere from $150 - $325. PLease refer to the Handbook section of the SSNL Booklet.
Where can I find the sport rules?
SSNL general rules are contained in the Handbook and the Sport Specific rules are contained in the TechnicalStandards. These documents will be forwarded to the school and can be found by following the link on the right bar of the Home Page of this website.
How do I go about hosting a Provincial tournament?
Provincial tournaments are awarded by using a tournament rotation so that all regions get an opportunity to host. Hosts are determined by June of the previous school year. Unhosted tournaments are open to any school on a first come basis (Contact the SSNL office) and remain open until one month before the provincial tournament date. How do I go about hosting a qualification tournament?
Contact your regional director.
How do I know which classification my school competes in?
Check the Classification grid by following the link on the right hand side of the home page of this website. Classifications are determined by school size.
Can I change my classification?
Yes, requests are entertained by the SSNL executive at the meeting prior to the AGM.
Are teachers required as coaches for school teams?
Teachers are not required as coaches, however if the coach is a non-teacher, there MUST be a teacher sponsor responsible for that team when competing in SSNL events.
Can I change a date for a tournament I am hosting?
Provincial tournament dates are set by the Annual General Meeting and cannot be changed unless there are province wide unusual and extraordinary circumstances. Qualification tournament dates can be changes with the permission of the SSNL office provided all participating schools give written approval and the new date still meets the provincial tournament registration deadline.
Are Level 4 students still eligible to compete if they have only competed for 1 or 2 years?
Level 4 students are not eligible to compete in SSNL events. Exceptions will be entertained by the SSNL executive if the reason a student is back for Level 4 is because of medical reasons.
Is there a limit on the number of players I can carry on my roster?
Yes, there is a maximum number for each sport as outlined in the Handbook. Schools must be aware that these are the maximum that will be accepted for SSNL tournaments.
Can my school play Fair Play and 3A or 4A Volleyball?
A school can enter a team in Fair Play and the divisional tournament however, it must be 2 DIFFERENT teams with totally different rosters. The deadline to register intent to play Fair Play is the AGM so the deadline has passed for this school year.
What is the SPORTS STARS program?
Sport Stars is a points program which recognizes the accomplishments, of a schools athletic program through their participation, success and sportsmanship in SSNL events. Schools accumulate points throughout the year and are awarded a gold, silver or bronze banner at the end of the year.
What is TRY DAY?
TRY DAY is a grant program designed so that schools can have the opportunity to introduce students to new or non traditional sports and activity programs.
What is Participation Nation?
